Alterations FAQs
Do you alter dresses bought elsewhere?
Yes of course. Please book an appointment to bring in your dress for an obligation free quote.
Can you give me a quote based on photos?
- As every dress is constructed and sewn differently, it is NOT possible for me to provide an accurate quote based on pictures.
- I need to know
- how to get to the seams.
- the number of seams involved and how it is stitched.
- how easy or hard it is to unpick the affected parts.
- how lace appliques are applied and if it requires re-beadings.
- the type of fabric as different fabric has different handling difficulty level.
- the number of layers.
- Any other issues that won’t show up in photos.
- Best to book an appointment so I can provide you with the best advice as many a times what is being suggested by bridal consultant may not be exactly what is needed. Many a times teaching the bride how to correctly “wear” the dress solves the fit problem.
When is the latest I should wait to get an alterations quote?
- We advise to get alteration quotes as soon as you receive your wedding, bridesmaid or evening dress.
- This way you will have an idea if its doable (or need plan B) and how much to budget for.
- I don’t like to rush you into an impulsive decision and also don’t want start too early to ensure the best fit on your special day.
- Once I’ve seen you dress and provided you with an itemised quote, I will inform you the number of fittings required to alter your dress.
- Based on the number of fittings (usually a week apart) will inform you the latest START date i.e. when to bring your dress back.
- You’ll also need to work out if you can make the fittings required taking into account you will have other appointments/commitments closer to your wedding.
- If you’re intending to gain or loose weight, please do it before alterations work starts.
Do you charge for appointments
No, I do not charge a fee for the first appointment to get a quote as I might not be able to do anything with your dress.
- Your appointment is obligation free so why not book in early to avoid unneccessary stress
How do you charge for your work?
After discussing what you like done with your dress, I will provide you with a itemised quote of what needs done (not hourly rate) so you know upfront exactly how much it will cost.
How much deposit do I collect for alterations to start?
- Your dress is the deposit, if you can trust me with your dress, I am happy to collect the full payment on collection day knowing that you’re happy with the work I’ve done.
